depending on what you can afford, hotels can either be a luxury or just a burden to stay at. there's everything here from the fancy 5-star hotels to the run-down creepy ones that drug dealers like to work from.

this is one of the best(and only) tattoo parlors in Oakland. whether you want to get something that will say "hey there...i could kick your ass any time, any place" or something of sentimental value, you can get it done here.

orchid lounge is a popular nightclub, that has quite the impressive-looking interior. a beautifully lit dancefloor, chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, multi-colored lights, and private rooms. local bands occasionally play here but otherwise, the music is usually up to the DJ.

as the name suggests, this bar sits right on a street corner and is the hang-out of many shady characters. i'd consider being careful hanging around here. the bar does, however, feature a local band to preform every night or every other night.

some people need their daily fix of gourmet coffee. starbucks is the perfect place to get it. sure, it may be a tad expensive, but it's worth it.

where local bands or smaller-scale bands play either at a festival or on their own. there is minimal security at this little stage, but fans are sometimes decent enough to not act like animals. sometimes.

where the bands hang out after a show, or warm up before a show. fans usually aren't seen here, unless invited by the band. but if you are lucky enough to be invited back here, try to play it cool. wouldn't want to be dragged out by security because you're acting like a stalker, right?

depending on the band you're seeing, being down here in the pit of adoring fans can be a magical, fun but occasionally dangerous experience. if you're a fragile type of person, try to avoid mosh pits and getting kicked in the head by crowd surfers. if not, then you have every right to go completely berserk.

ah, you lucky bastard. you get the chance to meet your favorite band, get a picture and get something signed? yeah, have fun. just don't hyperventilate.

though Oakland seems like a city and nothing else but that, there is a little patch of forestry nestled behind all those buildings and city streets. in the daytime, this place is very serene, quiet and a good place to think. but at night, it becomes a little more dangerous.
